Metal Recycling

We are one of the largest scrap metal recyclers in the country. Turning waste metal into value added steel products to help the development of Zimbabwe.

We use scrap metal in our steel production as it has a direct benefit for greener world:

Environmental conservation: Recycling scrap reduces waste and improves steel making ecosystems.

Energy efficiency: Steel production from scrap requires significantly less energy (around 75% less) compared to using raw materials, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and combating climate change.

Cost reduction: Scrap metal is often a more affordable raw material than iron ore, lowering production costs. However, with greater demand of scrap often results in local scrap being exported to international markets.

Economic growth: The scrap metal industry creates jobs in collection, processing, and transportation, boosting local economies. We are in favor of keeping scrap local, so people of Zimbabwe can earn a living.

Waste management: Recycling scrap diverts waste from landfills, reducing pollution and environmental hazards.

Resource efficiency: Steel can be recycled repeatedly without losing quality, making scrap a valuable and sustainable resource.

Local supply: Many African countries have scrap metal resources, reducing reliance on imports and promoting self-sufficiency.

Waste Oil Management

Waste-to-energy programs: we support the collection and waste management programs that collect and process waste oil for energy generation in a controlled and environmentally responsible manner.

Advocate Proper Disposal: If used oil cannot be recycled or reprocessed, it should be disposed of responsibly through licensed waste management companies.

Robust Water Management

Our plants use recycled water. At Steelmakers we have Implemented closed-loop water management systems. It requires investment in treatment and recycling infrastructure.  But believe it's not optional but mandatory for a better environment.

We strongly believe it's an essential strategy for sustainable steelmaking in Africa! The long-term benefits in water conservation provide savings and sustainable protection for all living creatures.

Water conservation: Steelmaking requires large amounts of water for cooling, processing, and other operations. Our systems recycle and reuse water, significantly reducing freshwater consumption and alleviating pressure on scarce water resources. This is particularly crucial in water-stressed Southern African region.

Reduced wastewater discharge: By treating and reusing water, these systems minimize the volume of wastewater discharged into the environment. This helps protect rivers, lakes, and groundwater from pollution, preserving aquatic ecosystems and human health.

Improved operational efficiency: optimized water quality for specific processes, leading to improved equipment performance, reduced scaling and corrosion, and enhanced product quality.

Sustainability: By minimizing water consumption and pollution, our systems contribute to sustainable steel production, aligning with global efforts to conserve resources and protect the environment.

Enhanced community relations: Responsible water management practices demonstrate a commitment to environmental stewardship, improving relationships with local communities and stakeholders.
