Our Commitment to Sustainability and Community Empowerment

At Steelmakers, sustainability and social impact are not trends we follow—they are an integral part of our DNA. Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives focus on addressing community needs while aligning with global environmental goals. Our unwavering dedication to Zimbabwe is evident in our proactive efforts to uplift communities and foster growth. Even during economic hardships, when others may have exited, we remained committed to supporting our nation and its people. Through these challenging times, we have forged lasting customer relationships and strengthened our organizational teams.

Our CSR initiatives include

Community Support: Distribution of food parcels to vulnerable households. Environmental Clean-Up: Organizing regular clean-up campaigns to preserve our surroundings. Access to Clean Water: Providing fresh drinking water for residents in Redcliff. Education and Schooling: Sponsoring children in rural areas, supporting schools with classroom construction, educational resources, and grants for children’s education. Industrial Skills Development: Empowering women in technology and supporting local skill development programs. Support for Schools and Churches: Donating to local projects, assisting with building repairs, and installing water tank stands. Healthcare: Supporting hospitals with oxygen bottles and participating in health camps for children and families.

Education

There is no doubting the value of education in shaping the course and destiny of humanity. At Steelmakers, we value education and are particularly passionate about providing equal access to education by supporting those of our society members that are unable to afford it, but whose very lives and future is hinged on it.

Education Details

The Patel Foundation, a brainchild of Steelmakers founding directors, was formed primarily to support children who are in difficult situations, and who, through fate, have lost a breadwinning parent or both, and with it, an opportunity to commence or proceed with their education. Through the Foundation, smiles and hope have been restored to disadvantaged pupils and students in neighboring schools, whose future, until then, could have been lost in despair.

The Foundation currently supports approximately 60 bursaries for orphaned children ranging from school starters to those in University, several of whom have been supported throughout from schooling, to university, and eventual apprenticeship.

Through the Foundation, partnerships have been formed with like-minded institutions, such as the Cephas Msipa Scholarship Trust, to assist critically needy students in other parts of the country. We believe this way, future leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals are being molded for a better future.

Patel Foundation solely supports a remote school in Chisumbanje in Chiredzi where classrooms have been built and furnished. A water borehole was established, and currently, electrification is being worked on to power the school, both from the grid and by way of solar energy.

As part of its commitment to supporting local communities, Steelmakers generously donated grocery hampers to the Hubert Lee Old People’s Home. This heartfelt contribution aims to provide essential support to the 20 families residing in the home, many of whom are unable to work and rely on such assistance for their day-to-day sustenance.

Clean Up Campaign

Steelmakers organized a clean-up campaign, uniting employees and locals to enhance public spaces and promote environmental awareness. This reflects the company’s commitment to sustainability and community well-being.

Health & Wellbeing Initiatives

The onsite clinic at Steelmakers has significantly improved the health and well-being of workers and their families. By providing convenient access to medical care, the clinic ensures prompt attention to health concerns, reducing absenteeism and boosting productivity. Workers benefit from regular health check-ups,and immediate treatment for workplace injuries.

Clean Safe Water

Steelmakers Zimbabwe constructed a borehole to supply residents with water. Redcliff community has of late been facing water challenges resulting in many depending on borehole water from other people’s homes. The borehole is currently producing 100 000 liters per day, which is enough to supply the community.

Church Campaign

Steelmakers support a community church campaigns aimed at fostering unity and providing assistance to those in need. Through donations and volunteer efforts, the company helps organize outreach programs that offered food, clothing, and medical supplies to underprivileged families.

Oxygen Supply to Hospitals

During the challenging times of the Covid pandemic, when hospitals faced critical oxygen shortages, we dedicated our oxygen plants to operating at maximum capacity. We then proudly donated our oxygen supply to support numerous hospitals, driven by a deep commitment to the well-being of our community.

Waste Management

As part of Steelmakers' ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, the company launched a waste management initiative aimed at reducing litter and promoting cleaner neighborhoods. Steelmakers distributed waste bins to local communities, encouraging residents to separate recyclable materials from general waste.
